Martha Ellen Hughes

Martha Stamey Hughes, 83, of Arnoldsville, died June 26, 2018.
Born in Wilkes County, she was the daughter of the late Myles and Elizabeth Brown Stamey.
Mrs. Hughes was one of the charter members, organizers and a faithful servant of Sonlight Baptist Church. She loved gardening, playing the piano and reading. Her devotion to God, family, friends and neighbors touched many lives.
Left to treasure her memory are her husband of 66 years, Nevin Hughes; children, Melvin "Russ" Hughes (Pam) of Winterville, Sherron Grice (Gary) of Jefferson and Phyllis Carney (Wiley) of Winterville; sister, Jenelle Palmer, twin sister, Mary Bradley and brothers, Oliver Stamey (Geneva) and Ron Stamey (Nancy); 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews; and Nevin's siblings and spouses.
Family will receive friends at Lord and Stephens EAST, Monday, July 2, 2018 between 6:00 and 8:00 PM. Services will be Tuesday, 11:00 AM at Lord and Stephens Chapel EAST with Revs. Billy Driskell and Barry Black officiating. Interment will follow at Athens Memory Gardens.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Flowers welcomed and Memorials may be made to Sonlight Baptist Church.
