Dr. Maxcy Pearle Nolan, Jr., 81, husband of Myrna Walter Nolan, died Thursday, January 14, 2021 at home. Maxcy was born in Anderson, SC, he was the son the late Maxcy P. Nolan, Sr. and Janie Elizabeth Sharpe Nolan.
Dr. Nolan earned his BS and MS from Clemson University and Ph.D. in Entomology from The University of Georgia. After more than 30 years as a Professor of Entomology, he retired from the University of Georgia. Maxcy was a retired Colonel in the US Army where he served as company, and battalion commander. He retired from the Adjutant General’s Corp USAR in 1992. Dr. Nolan was a long-time member of Green Acres Baptist Church where he served on many committees and was a long time member of the McGlohon Sunday School Class.
Dr. Nolan was a member of the Lions Club, Jaycees, and Georgia Officials Association where officiated for over 17 years.
Maxcy’s professional career was highlighted by his service to the Georgia Poultry Federation, Mosquito Control Associations throughout the state, the Structural Pest Control Commission, and Athens/Clarke County planning commission. He also published many articles and texts concerning insects that affect man and their animals.
Survivors in addition to his wife include his children: Maxcy P. Nolan, III and his wife Patricia Ann Nolan (Albea) Paul Nolan and his wife Catherine Camille Nolan (Ward) and Desiree Summers and her husband William Lavon Summers III; siblings: Thomas Vandiver Nolan, Edna Ann Belk, Barbara Jean Hewitt, Jane Elizabeth Nolan; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Sunday, January 17, 2021 at 3:30PM at Athens Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 at the funeral home prior to the service. Honorary pallbearers will be The McGlohon Sunday School Class.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Green Acres Baptist Church.
